Cosmetic Dentistry

In the past decade there has been a dramatic interest in cosmetic dentistry.  We all realize that having a healthy, bright, beautiful smile enhances our appearance and allows us to smile with confidence.  Thanks to the advances in modern cosmetic dentistry, we are able to improve our teeth and smiles with quick, painless and surprisingly affordable treatments.

Cosmetic dental treatments can:

  • Change the size, shape, and alignment of certain teeth.
  • Fill in unattractive spaces between teeth.
  • Improve or correct bites.
  • Lighten or brighten the color of teeth.
  • Repair decayed, broken, cracked, or chipped teeth.
  • Replace missing teeth.
  • Replace old, unattractive dental treatments.

Remember, your smile speaks before you even say a word!

Cosmetic dentistry services in Kitchener

Every cosmetic treatment we offer is done in our office at 232 Lawrence Ave, and most are planned and completed by the same dentist from start to finish.

Teeth whitening

Dentist-supervised whitening with custom-fitted trays, several shades brighter in about two weeks, with sensitivity managed along the way.

Porcelain veneers

Thin ceramic shells bonded to the front of the teeth to correct chips, gaps, worn edges, stubborn discolouration or minor crowding, usually in two visits.

CEREC same-day crowns

Ceramic crowns, inlays and onlays designed from a digital scan and milled in our office while you wait, so there is no temporary and no second appointment.

Porcelain crowns and fixed bridges

Full-coverage restorations for broken, heavily filled or missing teeth, matched to the colour of your natural teeth.

White (composite) fillings

Tooth-coloured fillings for new cavities, and replacement of old silver fillings that show when you smile. Small chips can often be repaired with the same material in a single visit (dental bonding).

Clear aligners (SureSmile)

Nearly invisible aligners to straighten teeth and close gaps without braces, planned from a digital scan.

Dental implants

The most natural-looking way to replace a missing tooth, placed and restored in our office with 3D (CBCT) planning.

How we plan a smile makeover

  1. Consultation. You tell us what bothers you about your smile. We examine your teeth and gums, because cosmetic work only lasts on a healthy foundation.
  2. Digital records. Photos and an intraoral scan (no gooey impressions) let us look at tooth shape, colour and bite together on screen.
  3. Options and estimate. We explain the choices, from a simple whitening and bonding to veneers or aligners, and give you a written estimate for each so you can decide what fits your goals and budget.
  4. Treatment. Many smile improvements are finished in one to three visits. We check the result with you before anything is permanently bonded.

Cost and insurance for cosmetic dentistry

Purely cosmetic treatments such as whitening and veneers are generally not covered by dental insurance or the Canadian Dental Care Plan. Treatments that also restore a damaged tooth, such as crowns, fillings and implants, are often partially covered, and we bill those plans directly. You will always receive a written estimate before treatment begins.

Cosmetic dentistry FAQs

What is the difference between veneers and crowns?

A veneer covers only the front surface of a tooth and requires very little tooth reduction; a crown covers the whole tooth and is used when the tooth is weakened, cracked or heavily filled.

Can a chipped front tooth be fixed in one visit?

Often, yes. Small chips can be repaired with composite bonding in a single appointment. Larger chips may call for a veneer or a CEREC crown, which we can also complete in one visit.

Is cosmetic dentistry covered by insurance?

Whitening and veneers usually are not. Crowns, fillings and implants frequently are, at least in part. We check your plan and give you an estimate before you decide.

How long do cosmetic results last?

Whitening typically needs a touch-up every year or two. Bonding lasts several years, and porcelain veneers and crowns commonly last ten to fifteen years or more with good care and a nightguard if you grind.
